the mill is most likely still empty, like many still are in Leek, (i live here also) and i have to say i hope the mills live on no matter what they are turned into.
This was a silk mill. The silk industry in Leek was very important and lasted a long time, from about 1672 up until the last mill closed in 1994. Recently the mill has been cleared out by the council so the roof could be fixed. The owners of the mill didn't want to spend money on fixing it so the council did it for them. the owners will be getting a very large bill some time soon. The roof was unsafe as, in high winds the road would have to be closed because the tiles would be flying off. Hope this hepled.
